School programs at Billie Creek Village and Farmstead have been central to the mission of the Village since its founding. It was the dream of founders to provide a living educational museum laboratory environment for school children of all ages. One of the most common stories heard at Billie Creek Village from adult visitors is one that details a visit 25 years ago while they were in the second grade at a nearby elementary school that is no longer operational. One of our goals is to make sure that these stories will be told to future generations.
The facilities at the Village include a one-room school house where a school marm re-enacts the ways children in the early 1900's learned to read, write and do arithmetic. Farm animals that live at the Farmstead were common to a turn-of-the-century farm. One of the most popular experiences is the feeding of animals and the petting of others. In 2004 a straw-bale maze was added for fun and educational purposes. Other opportunities include a sugar camp, an herb garden, a general store, a blacksmith and other resident artisans. Children and their adult companions will be treated to a horse or mule wagon ride and if they choose a tractor drawn wagon ride through one of the three covered bridges on the property. The wagon rides finishes with a splash through a ford on Billie Creek.
